The Embassy of India celebrated the 71st Republic Day of India in Sarajevo on 30th January 2020. The programme was attended by senior Bosnian officials from different ministries and institutions, Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, as well as members of the Indian community and media persons. Also, two Bosnian personalities were felicitated by Ambassador for their contribution in promoting Yoga and Ayurveda in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

2. In his remarks, Ambassador of India Mr. Kumar Tuhin, inter alia, mentioned that India and Bosnia and Herzegovina shared the ideals of democracy and pluralistic societies. The two countries enjoyed close historical and cultural ties which had been strengthened over time. Bilateral cooperation in diverse fields including education, culture, capacity building, etc. had been steadily growing. A number of officials from Bosnia and Herzegovina had visited India for attending capacity building courses organised under India’s Development Partnership Programme.

3. Speaking at the occasion as the Chief Guest, Mr. Marinko Čavara, President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina said that India and Bosnia and Herzegovina indeed shared very close ties, which had been continually strengthened through the efforts by both sides. He noted that there was still a lot of scope for strengthening cooperation in the economic field and in promoting people-to-people ties. After the addresses by the Ambassador and the Chief Guest, a cultural programme was held showcasing both the Indian classical and contemporary dance forms. The latter was performed by Bosnian artists on an Indian melody which culminated with all the artists waving the Indian Tricolour and mesmerising the audience. The guests then enjoyed a sumptuous dinner of Indian delicacies.
