Ambassador’s remarks at Programme of Meditative Music and songs by Mr. Gabor Korosi and Ms. Mariann Vass
ASCC, Embassy of India Budapest
March 17, 2026
Distinguished guests, members of the Indian diaspora, and dear friends,
Namaskar, Jó estét kívánok, and a very warm welcome to the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre.
Tonight, we step away from the relentless pace of our daily lives to experience something profoundly restorative. We have the distinct privilege of welcoming Mr. Gábor Kőrösi and Ms. Mariann Vass, who will guide us through a beautifully curated programme of meditative music and songs.
For millennia in India, music has never been viewed merely as a source of entertainment. It is considered a profound science of well-being, an instrument to bring the turbulent mind into alignment with the deeper rhythms of existence. In our ancient traditions, we speak of Nada Brahma—the concept that the universe itself is fundamentally sound and vibration. Just as we understand that the physical world is governed by frequencies and resonance, our sages understood that the precise arrangements of musical notes, the ragas, can tune human consciousness. This music offers deep spiritual healing, creating a beautiful poetry written not in words, but in the pure physics of sound.
It is incredibly moving to see this ancient Indian science of spiritual well-being embraced with such sincerity and passion here in Hungary. The performance tonight by Gábor and Mariann is a living testament to the warm, enduring cultural bridge between our two nations. The Hungarian people have always shown a remarkable resonance with Indian spiritual, philosophical, and cultural traditions. When a Hungarian artist dedicates themselves to mastering an Indian meditative art form, they are not just performing; they are speaking directly to the soul of India. It is highly fitting that this heartfelt exchange takes place here, under the name of Amrita Sher-Gil, who so beautifully harmonized the Indian and Hungarian heritage in her own life and art.
Today, this ancient musical heritage is experiencing a powerful and deliberate resurgence. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is a dedicated national effort to restore Indian traditional music and arts to their rightful place of pride. We are witnessing a true cultural renaissance. From conferring our highest civilian honors upon unsung, grassroots traditional musicians, to formally integrating Indian cultural knowledge into our national education framework, the government is ensuring that this civilizational wealth is vigorously protected and globally celebrated. We recognize that true progress requires us to build a dynamic, modern future while remaining deeply anchored in the spiritual frequencies that have sustained our civilization for thousands of years.
Tonight is an opportunity to tune into those very frequencies. I invite you to leave the noise of the outside world at the door. Allow the meditative music and the beautiful voices of Gábor and Mariann to wash over you, and let us share in the profound tranquility that arises when art, spirituality, and genuine friendship converge.
Thank you. Köszönöm szépen. Enjoy the evening.
