Special reservation of seats to Foreign students for admission in Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes of Indian Maritime University (IMU)


The Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai India is a premier Maritime University under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and Government of India.


The charter of IMU is to promote and achieve excellence in areas of maritime studies, training, research and extension with focus on emerging areas like Oceanography, Maritime History, Maritime Laws, Maritime Security, Search and Rescue, Transportation of Dangerous Cargo, Environmental studies and other related fields.

The University has four Schools:

c) School of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering
d) School of Maritime Management

Mode of Admissions


IMU offers direct admissions to foreign nationals from AY 2025-26 in Non-DGS UG programmes and PG programmes

a.) - Direct admission scheme for Foreign Nationals by IMU (on IMU portal)

Any foreign national studying in India or abroad or an Indian citizen who has completed his 11th or 12th grades/undergraduate studies from an institution abroad may take admissions in Indian Maritime University. The details can be viewed from the portal for direct admissions to foreign nationals. The link is available on IMU website under “Admissions”

b.) - DASA Scheme of Ministry of Education

Foreign nationals / persons of India Origin/ Non-resident Indians/ Overseas Citizen of India to Under Graduate/ Post Graduate programmes can also seek admission through Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme of Ministry of Education, Government of India by logging on to www.dasanit.org
