31 million Indians represent their country abroad

Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of India, was famously photographed using a charkha, a portable hand-cranked wheel ideal for spinning cotton and other fine short-staple fibres. Gandhi, who was leading a non-violent movement of civil disobedience to throw off British colonial rule on the subcontinent, wanted Indians to use native Indian cloth, not English cloth. The homespun cloth produced on the wheel is called khadi, and an exhibition centred on the material has opened at the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre within the Indian Embassy in Budapest.
